MY LAST DAY IN TOKYO

December 13
I return to Ebisu to buy a wonderful piece of pottery by wa da Hitori and to devour another lunch of tongetsu, delicately fried pork cutlet, my new favorite comfort food. I visit the Tokyo International Museum of Photography to discover the exhibit on Lotte Reiniger is over. I take an unfamilar metro line to the Japan Folk Crafts Museum and discover the University of Tokyo which has a wonderful campus. I wait for Karin in the lobby of the Grand Hyatt in Roppongi and see more Americans in one hour than I have seen in three weeks. We meet and walk to the Mori Museum to discover the Vivian Westwood Exhibit closes early on Tuesdays. We walk to Honmura An for soba and saki and discover the restaurant is closed today. We walk into the nearest noodle restaurant and discover a most wonderful flavorful meal of ramen noodles, pork, broth with sides of dumplings and fish rice cakes (for about $8.00 for two.) We wash this down with two small bottles of clear, mild , smooth, non-vinegarly saki. A most perfect meal to end three almost perfect weeks in Japan.
